Play the Chinese Guitar is actually my favorite move in Tai Chi, partially because, for the beginner, it's an overtly self-defensive move, and for the whole sequence of moves, its always a brief stop between two major themes. In the Short Form, it's a pause between the moving-forward, yang-energy movements of part wild horses mane and twist-step brush knee, and the moving-back, yin-energy movements of repulse monkey. The movement itself is overly self-defensive because it enacts the capture of an invisible opponents forearm, perhaps just before a pull-back brings the opponent off-balance. The capture of the forearm itself will move the opponent off-balance, not having suspected this tai-chi-er to have caught his or her arm.

My favorite "concept" in all of life is variation: the act of changing something slightly to enhance or provide artistic enjoyment. When I update this later, I'll show you what I mean. :-)
